We are the 15th cohort in Edmonton within the RISE program
Our project combines a civic engagement website with an in-person youth launch event. It aims to provide actionable tools for participation beyond voting, to connect youths to local civic opportunities, and to create a low-barrier space for starting political conversations. We are seeking to reduce discomfort, disconnect, and inaccessibility our youths feel towards participating in political conversations. We are motivated by our belief that:
if you are not in the conversation, you cannot control the outcome.

I’ve always been passionate about change and social justice. Yet for so long, my desire for change was isolated and individual. With the Magpie Collective, the aim is to drive change through community and initiative. It turns into not just something I long for but something I am working towards. I want to shape the world I live in - and the Magpie Collective enables that.
Fun Fact: Big fan of the DC Robins. Jason Todd is my fave :3

Our world is not the way it is by accident. The systems we live under were created by our choices and actions. And I want to change the world. Being a part of the Magpie Collective allows me to feel like I am finally creating the change I want to see.

In my experience young people have the desire to participate in social and political movements but do not know how to get involved. The Magpie Collective has developed this platform to solve this exact issue!
Fun Fact : I collect physical media (CDs, VHS Tapes, DVDs and Vinyl!)

Youth voices matter, and I joined The Magpie Collective because I wanted to do something about it, not just believe it. For a long time, politics and governance felt like something that happened to us, not with us. Through this initiative, I’m learning what it really means to show up for my community and help others do the same.
Fact Fun Fact: My favourite time of year is Christmas, so I’m always open to new baking recipes!
